Hello.

Thanks for dropping by. This is a website containing work made by Andrew Day. It mostly shows his paintings, drawings, photographs, films and etchings. There are no videos of him dancing because he cannot dance. Enjoy what you can.

GET
MILK
My first proper foray into film-making, and using filters and f-stops like I was creating an aquatint etching. Cast my eldest daughter and one of her besties in it, too. Borne out of necessity this one.
Picked up awards at the Berlin Short Film Festival, Cannes Short Film Festival, New York Short Film Festival, and, most proudly of all, the Peckham and Nunhead Free Film Festival. Go us!
DURAN DURAN
× WE ARE REWIND
Well, I didn’t see this one coming! Duran Duran asked me to work with the fabulous folk at ‘We Are Rewind’ to art direct a Limited Edition cassette player, celebrating their album, ‘Pop Trash’.
For the cover of this lesser known record, I used a photo of Liberace’s ‘Excalibur’ car, shot in the museum in Las Vegas. It seemed only fitting to use this as the inspiration for this project, and boy did We Are Rewind deliver!
POP
TRASH
‘Pop Trash’ is Duran Duran’s 10th studio album, and my second commission for the band.
The cover features one of Liberace’s cars, an ‘Excalibur’, photographed by me whilst on tour with the band in Las Vegas. Other collages were made using nothing but diamanté.
Recently re-released by BMG on vinyl, including a limited-edition picture disc. Photography, design and illustration by yours truly.
Oh, and there may (or may not) be a film coming soon. Stay tuned!
MEDAZZALAND
‘Medazzaland’ is Duran Duran’s 9th studio album. I was incredibly fortunate to be commissioned by Nick Rhodes after meeting him at my degree show at St. Martins in the summer of 1996.
The work involved painting, illustration and photography, and has recently been reissued on vinyl by their label, ‘BMG’.
TV
MANIA
TV Mania’s only ever album, ‘Bored with the internet and Prozac’ - collaboration with Nick Rhodes, Warren Cuccurrullo and cover illustration by Vania Zouravliov. The ‘1-bit bar codes’ in the packaging linked to video we shot of model, Chloe Lloyd.
“The most perfect piece of music packaging I have ever seen. I’m buying a copy for my friend, Jony Ive.” - Marc Newson (CBE), Industrial Designer.
HASTINGS
CONTEMPORARY
Three paintings created on the shoreline at Pett Level in response to a brief set by Hastings Contemporary.
The theme was ‘Odyssey’, reflecting journeys shaped by tides, time and transformation; the restless call of the sea and the stories it inspires.
A return to my roots, as I used to paint en plein air just along the coast in St Leonards whilst studying at Hastings College of Arts and Technology.
ROZZI ×
KI SMITH
This exhibition was a collaboration between the sensational musician, ‘Rozzi’ and the most excellent ‘Ki Smith Gallery’ in Manhattan. The artists for the exhibition were curated by Gia Coppola, Julian Lennon, Kiersey Clemons, Simon Shaw and Simon Le Bon.
Each artist responded to a track from Rozzi’s album ‘Fig Tree’. Mine was ‘Soft’, a tender song about a relationship falling apart.
I photographed discarded personal effects on the street, printed the image on fondant icing and mounted it in a locked commercial advertising frame. The exhibition is travelling to Los Angeles. Whether the icing survives is another matter.
PAUL
SMITH

DIVORCE
IS…
I guess it all started here, after Madeleine posted an ad on the wall of the café in St. Martins, (way back when ‘Illustration, Graphic Design and Photography’ was on ‘Longacre’). I came into college wearing a bin bag and a mate on the stairwell shouted out “I just saw an ad I think you might be interested in!“. So I took him at his word, and I remain very bloody grateful that he shouted at me that fateful day.
And eternally grateful that Madeleine loved the illustration I faxed her all those years ago.
LA
SIRÈNE
My family challenged me to make a short film whilst we were on holiday. So I did. Inspired by the fire warning alarm that tore through the sleepy village of Marguerittes.
THE
BLUE
‘The Blue’ is a 1992 ambient and world-music collaboration between guitarist Warren Cuccurullo and violinist and singer L. Shankar.
The painting was commissioned by Warren and created in my parents’ back garden.
ONE OF MY
ETCHINGS
No, I am not religious. I wanted to copy Albrecht Dürer. Don’t know why I chose to copy Dürer’s Christ. Made during my time at Hastings College of Arts and Technology.
JACK
KEROUAC
Illustrations and a painting created for my final-year thesis at Central Saint Martins, ‘Be-bop: Rhythm and Cadence in Jack Kerouac’s Writing’.
A certain Mr Nick Rhodes purchased the painting from my degree show, and it hangs on his kitchen wall to this day...
SOCIABLES.

THE STORY
SO FAR.
After graduating from Central Saint Martins with a degree in illustration, I met Nick Rhodes via Madeleine Farley. Nick very kindly flew me to Los Angeles for a job interview at a house in Malibu where David Hockney was staying. I met John Taylor, who didn’t particularly like my work and thought it was quite derivative, but I somehow got the job anyway. I created the artwork for 'Medazzaland' and began a relationship with Duran Duran that has endured for more than 30 years.
During that time I also ran the art department at EMI Music, which was far too much fun. Eventually I grew up a little bit and joined advertising and digital agencies including McCann, Imagination and PublicisSapient, but I always felt like a round hole in a square peg. These days I’m a plumb for hire, and whilst I’m not very good at DIY, I am quite a good tiler.
DON’T BE A
STRANGER.
